i couldn't help it, but i kept on hearing "the glory of love" from karate kid part 2. you know the part when daniel san and the japanese girl are having a tea ceremony while a typhoon is hitting the town that they're in? and then daniel san goes and saves the little girl that ringing the bell.
anyways, today was our official tea ceremony. tea houses are actually a separate part of the house and usually located within a garden. the entrances are small to signify a transition into a different world, the world of the tea ceremony.
also part of our arts and crafts tour of japan was calligraphy and flower arrangement. the calligraphy class that we took was really intense. the man that was showing us seriously put all of his might and energy into doing just one character. i had no idea that it was like that. he crouched down and got on the balls of his feet and began planning the movements in his head. he picked up a large brush and let out a loud grunt and proceeded to draw the japanese character for mountain (yam). after he was done he had to wipe away the powis on his forhead. i just stood there in awe as his creation dried on the floor.
my floral arrangement... the concept behind it was to create a star filled night, with the round vase as the moon and the flowers behind it representing the stars in the sky. doesn't look like to so much...
